What each level must prove

Mid-level

Builds the models and valuations that the team uses to judge what a business is worth.

You move from reading statements to constructing them: integrated models, a DCF, and peer and deal benchmarks. A model you build gets reviewed and reused, so linkage errors now cost the team rather than only you.

Study trail for this level: Financial Analysis

  • Financial Statement Linkages

Why: Lets you trace a single transaction, such as a capex purchase, through all three statements and find why the balance sheet does not balance.

  • Profitability Ratios

Why: Lets you go past computing margins to explaining them, using ROIC to say whether growth is creating value when comparing business units.

  • Liquidity Ratios

Why: Lets you link liquidity ratios to the working capital cycle and judge whether a growing company is heading for a cash squeeze.

  • DCF Modeling

Why: Lets you build a DCF with a defensible WACC and terminal value and bridge to equity value, instead of copying a template's assumptions.

  • Three-Statement Models

Why: Lets you build a forecast where income statement, balance sheet and cash flow stay tied, so a budget revision flows through without manual patching.

  • Comparable Company Analysis

Why: Lets you choose a defensible peer set and apply trading multiples to get an implied value range for a company being reviewed.

  • Precedent Transactions

Why: Lets you screen past deals and reason about control premiums, so an acquisition valuation reflects what buyers actually paid.
