What each level must prove

Mid-level

Owns forecast quality and uses it to find savings and to support business cases for the teams.

You now defend your drivers in front of budget owners and look for where spend can come down. Compared with junior, you are expected to explain the variance and recommend an action, not only report it.

  • Driver-Based Forecasting

Why: You can pick the drivers that really move results and challenge a sales leader's volume assumption, so the forecast does not rest on optimism.

  • Rolling Forecasts

Why: You can explain why the latest forecast moved against the last one, so executives trust the changes instead of suspecting the numbers are being adjusted.

  • Cost Optimization

Why: You can rank cost initiatives by savings and effort and track the result, so cuts land where they hurt least instead of across the board.

  • Vendor Negotiation

Why: You can analyze a supplier contract and the spend behind it, giving procurement the numbers to consolidate vendors or renegotiate a renewal.

  • Cross-Functional Support

Why: You can sit with Sales or Product and answer what a decision does to the margin, so finance is consulted before the plan is made and not after.

  • Business Case Development

Why: You can build the financial case for a headcount request or investment with explicit assumptions, so approvers can see what would have to be true.
