What each level must prove

Mid-level

Accountable for taking a feature from rough wireframes to a polished, consistent interface that developers can build.

You own whole features end to end: sketch, prototype, review against known heuristics, and hand off to engineering. You start to work within and contribute to a design system. The shift from junior is from gathering evidence to making and defending design decisions.

Study trail for this level: UX & Product Design

  • Heuristic Evaluation

Why: You can audit a checkout flow against Nielsen's heuristics in a day and hand the team a ranked list of problems before any user is recruited.

  • Navigation Patterns

Why: You can restructure navigation for a product that has grown to dozens of screens, keeping familiar paths while adding new sections.

  • Content Strategy

Why: You can define a content model that lets several teams add pages without each inventing their own structure and naming.

  • Wireframing & Prototyping

Why: You can choose the right fidelity for the question at hand, a paper sketch for early direction or a clickable prototype for a developer handoff.

  • Microinteractions

Why: You can design the loading, success and error states of a form so users always know whether their submission went through.

  • Design Systems

Why: You can build a component from existing tokens and flag when a new variant is justified, so your screen does not quietly fork the system.

  • Typography & Color in UI

Why: You can fix a screen that feels cluttered by adjusting type scale, spacing and contrast so hierarchy is clear and text stays readable.
